Twin Creek and Getchell Mines - Nevada
Nevada is the third largest gold producer in the world after South Africa (1st) and Australia (2nd). Current mining operations have disturbed more than 100,400 acres of land in Nevada. Some gold mining pits are so large that they can be seen from outer space. Working with Earthworks and the Western Shoshone communities of Nevada, EcoFlight has conducted flights over the Twin Creek and Getchell gold mines, assisting tribal leaders in their understanding of the impacts these mines have on the local ecosystem and water resources. To learn more about the Western Shoshone's opposition to a proposed open pit gold mining operation, please visit http://www.gbrw.org/take-action/90-save-spiritual-site-mt-tenabo.html
